Year of the Fire Goat 2027 (丁未)
2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat
Chinese New Year Day 1 falls on Saturday, 6 February 2027. The sexagenary label is 丁未 (Ding Wei): heavenly stem 丁 plus earthly branch 未 (Goat).
Stem 丁 names Fire; branch 未 names Goat and has Earth as its fixed element. The pair 丁未 names the Fire Goat year.

Lantern Festival falls on Saturday, 20 February 2027 (正月十五), the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. The Fire Goat year continues through 25 January 2028.
Fire Goat vs Fixed Element Earth
Each of the 12 animals has a fixed earthly-branch element. For Goat (未) that branch default is Earth (the “Fixed Element” shown in the profile). Separately, the year’s heavenly stem sets the popular five-element nickname. In 2027 the stem is 丁 (Yin Fire), so people say Fire Goat. Earth names the branch; Fire names the 2027 stem. Both are correct for different layers of the same 丁未 year.
January and February birthdays in 2027
January 1 does not start the zodiac year. Under the Chinese New Year convention, birthdays from January 1, 2027 through February 5, 2027 belong to Horse. Birthdays from February 6, 2027 belong to Goat.
For BaZi, the year pillar changes at Li Chun on February 4, 2027, calculated here at 09:46 in China Standard Time (UTC+8). After that instant and before Chinese New Year on February 6, 2027, the Li Chun convention gives Goat, while the Chinese New Year convention still gives Horse. For a birth on the Li Chun date, check the birth time with the BaZi calculator.

Why January & February Birthdays Have Two Signs
In Chinese calendrical culture, the year transition can be observed using two distinct traditions: the civil Lunar New Year (celebrated with fireworks and family feasts) and the astronomical solar term Li Chun (Start of Spring, used in traditional astrology and BaZi).
Ben Ming Nian: Your Zodiac Year of Birth (本命年)
GoatTraditional Chinese cultural customs for your 12-year animal return
In Chinese cultural folklore, the year your zodiac animal returns every 12 years is called Ben Ming Nian (本命年), when one meets Tai Sui (the Guardian Deity of the Year). Traditional customs recommend wearing red accessories—such as red string bracelets, red belts, or red socks—and carrying jade emblems gifted by friends or family to invite positive harmony and auspicious fortune.

Fire Goat 2027: FAQ
Stem–branch, naming, and when the year really ends.
Both, at different layers. The earthly branch 未 (Goat) is fixed Earth. The 2027 year stem 丁 is Fire, so the year is called Fire Goat (丁未). The profile “Fixed Element Earth” line is the branch default. It does not mean 2027 is an Earth year.
All three English words point to the same Chinese zodiac animal 羊 / earthly branch 未. This site uses Goat in English (and 羊 in Chinese). Other languages may prefer “sheep” or local equivalents. The calendar animal is the same.
Under the public Chinese New Year rule it starts Saturday, 6 February 2027 (Day 1) and ends at Chinese New Year 2028 (Wednesday, 26 January 2028). It does not end on Lantern Festival (20 February 2027). Under Li Chun / BaZi (Exact), the Fire Goat year pillar begins at 立春 on 4 February 2027 at 09:46 China Standard Time. See the CNY 2027 hub cusp note.
Ben Ming Nian (本命年) is the cultural “zodiac year of birth” that returns every 12 years. People born in earlier Goat years (for example 2015, 2003, 1991) enter that cycle during 2027 under the civil CNY convention from 6 February. Customs such as wearing red are folklore, not medical or fortune advice. See the Ben Ming Nian section below.
