History & Cultural Origins
Easter is the central feast of Christianity, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion, as described in the New Testament. Its date was set in relation to Passover (the first Sunday after the paschal full moon). Later folk customs such as eggs and springtime symbols of new life became part of many local celebrations.
