Astronomical Data & Calculation Methodology

The Chinese Lunar Calendar platform provides historical, contemporary, and predictive computational data for the lunisolar calendar (农历), the twenty-four solar terms (二十四节气), sexagenary cyclical pillars (干支), and Chinese zodiac systems.

Astronomical Standards & Algorithms:
Calendar calculations and celestial positions are computed in accordance with the astronomical standards and mathematical principles established by the Purple Mountain Observatory (Zijinshan Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences). Astronomical ephemeris and lunisolar conversions utilize verified computational models implementing the Shoushi and Chongzhen calendar calculation frameworks via high-precision astronomical algorithms.

Coordinate & Timezone Standards:
By standard convention, astronomical events, new moon alignments (朔), and solar term divisions (节气) are calculated using China Standard Time (Beijing Time, UTC+8 / 120°E celestial meridian). Where localized dates are provided for international jurisdictions, local astronomical solar noon and meridian offsets are calculated accordingly.

Zodiac Year Boundaries & Astrological Transitions:
The platform supports both traditional civil and astrological conventions:

  • Civil Lunar Calendar: The zodiac year transitions at Chinese New Year (Spring Festival / 正月初一), marking the start of the first lunar month.
  • Astrological Solar Jieqi Calendar: Traditional Four Pillars of Destiny (BaZi / 八字) calculations transition at Li Chun (Start of Spring / 立春, approximately solar longitude 315°), ensuring astronomical precision for boundary cusp births.
