    Xiaoshu marks the beginning of the hottest period, though not yet at peak heat. It signals the start of the 'fu' (伏) days, the three hottest periods of summer.

    Customs & Traditions

    People eat lotus root, mung bean soup, and light foods to combat the heat. Cricket fighting becomes popular. Drying clothes and books in the sun is traditional.
